I can see certain locations getting a name change would be best made into an event or option for the player (or AI) instead of being automatic. If I as a Scandinavian country manage to conquer Constantinople I ought to get a popup asking if I want to keep that name or switch to the old Norse name Miklagård. One the one hand there is an old Norse name to use as a way to stamp authority over the city, but also it *IS* Constantinople with all the ancient Roman history.

techically you're still wrong, Istanbul name came after the ottomans fell and replaced with a republic that wanted to rebrand, Ottomans called Konstanyye, which is just the Arabic pronunciation of Constantinople that the Turks copied. Also your question is not a trick question actually, Constantinople in like 3-5% the area of Istanbul, so asking this question would just have people tell you "ah you wanna see the old city and the walls? it's right over there in Fatih district"
